As we start out on a new year, we all have great plans about what we will achieve in the year ahead. Having recently surveyed my subscribers, there seem to be 8 key barriers they highlight to achieving in 2012.

So what were the 8 most common barriers and what do I suggest they do to address them?

Barrier 1: Time

One of the most common barriers was the idea that people don’t have the time. The reality is very different. The truth is the reason why people don’t have the time is they fail to make something a priority. We all have to decide what we want to do with the 24 hours we have available in each day.
Barrier 2: Poor Communication Skills

Communication for me is about getting your point across effectively; both verbally and in writing and, even more importantly, learning to listen. There is an abundance of support in this area if you just seek it out.
Barrier 3: The Economy, Availability Of Resources And Opportunities

Let’s not pretend that the global economy is in good shape; we all know it is not. At the same time perhaps this is the time to take control of your own destiny. If you always wait for someone else to sort you out, you might miss the boat and end up staying stuck for ever. Take control of what you can influence.
Barrier 4: Clarity And Uncertainty

If we are not clear about what we want, it is always going to be difficult to achieve it. Take the time to get clear and then do something to move forward even if you are uncertain of the outcome.
Barrier 5: Finding Fault In Others

It is easy to look externally to justify your lack of progress. This might be the case some of the time but often it is seeking to blame someone else for what you are not willing to do.
Barrier 6: Throwing In The Towel

Success and achievement is a marathon, not a sprint. If you are not willing to persevere and persist, you will never reach your peak.
Barrier 7: Lack Of Skills

Whenever you have a skills deficiency you have two choices. Get the support to get the skills or accept you are not going to progress. The choices you make determine your results.
Barrier 8: Procrastinating

My experience is that procrastinating just delays, gets you frustrated and stops you achieving. Get off the fence and start taking decisions and action now.
The Reality: It is easy to come up with 101 excuses for not achieving. In truth, if you keep taking decisions, taking action, get the skills and support you need, you greatly increase your chances of success.

21 year old guy had worn a pair of contact lenses during a barbecue party.(An event or meal at which food is cooked outdoors over an open grill or fire)
While barbecuing he stared at the fire charcoals continuously for 2-3 minutes.
After a few minutes, he started to scream for help and moved rapidly, jumping up and down.
No one in the party knew why he was doing this?

Then he admitted into the Hospital, the doctor said he’ll be blind permanently because of the contact lenses that he had worn.
Contact lenses are made by plastics, and the heat from the charcoal melted
his contact lenses.

DO NOT WEAR CONTACT LENSES WHERE OVERHEATING AND FLAMES ARE CONCERNED…. OR
WHILE COOKING…!

Hikaru no Go

Another fiction anime I spent many days watching but that one has definitely a huge momentarily influence on me. Towards the end of the series, there was a period when the anime’s hero and atmosphere was so sad and so was I. I had hard time at University with tough classes and so on, but I believe that I was even sadder because of the pessimistic influence of the anime on me. But now that I am done with this anime and thanks to its quite happy ending I think that I can move on and regain my life back. I am just done with the last episode and am trying to figure out what I have learnt from this anime because I always believe that the time I spend watching this stuff isn’t wasted but I can always come out with a lesson from it. However, I am still seeking the lesson out of this one, or rather the lesson that affects me that most because there are various lessons but which one is mine is still undecided…

Fifty Influential People… Who Are they? Why They Matter?

By Engy Moussa

How much do you know about Angela Merkel, David Petraeus, Ai Weiwei? If not much, or not at all, you may want to surf the Internet for them along with another 47 people whom New Statesman magazine’s annual survey, published on the September 26 issue, chose as the 50 most influential people in the world for 2011.

With a critical economic situation in Europe, and the euro on the edge of collapsing, the upcoming decisions of the head of government of the largest and richest country in the European Union, Angela Merkel, will draw the path of recovery or of deep suffering for Europe and many affected countries around the world. With such power and responsibility at hand Merkel tops the list of the 50 people who matter for 2011.

The top five on the list include Petraeus, the current director of the CIA, who came second jumping 10 ranks higher than his position in last year’s survey. The Chinese artist, Weiwei, most famous for his art installation Sunflower Seeds and currently known as a dissident. He made a new entry in the list and got third place. Tim Cook, the chief executive officer of Apple Inc. since Steve Jobs’ resignation last August, came forth in another new entry among a total of 26 on the list. And falling from number one last year, Barack Obama came fifth.

From the Middle East, four people were selected among the few who matter in 2011. Ranked tenth was the young Egyptian Wael Ghonim who became very famous and influential since the Egyptian revolution of January 25. Just behind him, in eleventh place, was the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyib Erdogan who captured the attention and hearts of many Egyptians during his recent visit to the country. The other three are the head of the Pakistani army since 2007: Ashfaq Kayani (No.14), and the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (No.30).

Overall the survey was very inclusive gathering influential people from various careers and different areas around the globe. It included two famous athletes: Usain Bolt (No. 23), the world athletics championships 100m, and Lionel Messi (No. 50), the world’s most expensive footballer.

Other prominent figures on the lit are Lady Gaga (No. 26), the American pop star; J.K. Rowling (No. 33), the author of Harry potter books; Julain Assange (No.40), the Sweden founder of wikileaks, and Matt Damon (No.49), the Hollywood star.

A Fight of Will with a Happy Ending

From a growing tension and stress to a high relief and satisfaction, AUC community had a unique beginning for this Fall semester. The strikes taking place on campus were a show of unity and diversity, of persistence and eventual success.

Since the first day of classes till last Monday, many AUC students went on strike to present several demands, on the top of which comes the cancellation of the nine percent increase in tuitions implemented this semester. Shortly the students were joined by custodial staff, security staff and gardeners who went on strike as well and gathered on a daily basis in front of the HUSS building and the Administration building, requesting their demands to be heard and accepted.

Till last Monday afternoon when AUC president Lisa Anderson came out to the students and announced the agreements the administration took concerning the various demands, which seemed highly in favor of the students, a general unhappiness and disappointment were spreading around campus.

“I feel stressed and overwhelmed because of the strikes. It is an unstable circumstance. I hope it works out because we deserve to be heard out. We finally stood up for our rights and hopefully we can make a change,” said Nermin Hassan, CMA major.

During the strikes, some students were happy to stick together and reclaim their demands while others got very frustrated as the strikers interrupted classes asking them to leave their seats and join them.

Many professors were very supportive of the students’ demands but some were against the methodology the students used to achieve them. According to Sharif S. Elmusa, political science professor, the students lacked organization. Missing classes shouldn’t be a general rule, however, the students leading the movement should arrange so that while some stay on strike others be attending classes and taking notes for those who were missing. Elmusa said that by missing classes, students are eventually wasting the money their parents paid for their education and which they want to decrease.

While the administration was taking its time studying the situation, tension was increasing among the strikers and protesters, and many began to lose hope. Their determination to make the administration compile to their demands became mixed with anger, rage and impatience. “Anger blinds you to everything,” said Firas Al-Atraqchi, Mass Communication professor.

The increasing anger leaded to a momentary chaos, which manifested itself two weeks ago, on Thursday, when the students took down the American flag after Anderson left the forum scheduled to discuss the demands of the strikers in an unexpected and sudden way.

The protesters said that this act was only an expression of their anger regarding Anderson’s sudden leave because according to them she didn’t exercise the democratic values that the United States always claims to respect and be a pioneer of. But many people, even among the supporters of the strike, weren’t convinced with this explanation. “Taking down the flag is a political act. If you are gonna do anything about flags, you should take down the AUC flag or put it upside down,” said Ahmed Aboul Enein, an English and Comparative Literature major.

With the beginning of the third week, after the drop and add period ended, students were busy catching up with the material they missed, and professors worked to compensate for the disturbance of classes due to the strikes. At this stage, students were beginning to feel overwhelmed with work but a slight relief started to appear as the administration began considering the demands of the strikers. “At first I was feeling bad because President Lisa wasn’t paying attention to us. But now I am relieved because she promised to listen and comply for our demands,” said Samah Abd Al Sami’, Construction Engineering major.

On Monday afternoon, after Anderson meet with the students in front of the HUSS building and announced a list of agreements concerning the demand of the protesters, AUC students and the other strikers felt triumphant and highly satisfied as the agreements replied to most of their requests. Shortly after the strikers from the student body announced the end of their strike on their Facebook page and celebrated their success on campus by marching to the food court while chanting “Ole ole ole” & “We took our rights”.

The students expressed their feelings of fulfillment on social networks as well as a huge number of them wrote on Twitter statements like “Mission Accomplished”, “Mabrouk”, and “Congrats to all AUC students for their success”.

A and D (Watty Awards 2011)

22:44… 16/9/2011

For two days I lived with this novel in a bubble of happiness, humor and suspense. I am constantly realizing that nothing makes me happy more than reading a good Novel. And for sure this one was indeed good. It just felt so real, simple and touchy. I connected with it although it doesn’t have vampires which are really my passion and favorite. I liked the double perspective, jumping back and forth between them. I liked the love story that slowly evolved and matured between both heroes. I am simply pleased and grateful to have picked up this novel among the unlimited stories on the Wattpad. Great thanks for the young author :)
